| Walmart Foundation | Deadline: Nov. 2, 2009; nearly 2,700/$3,000 awards |
At the Walmart Foundation, we believe that a good education creates opportunities that lead to a better life. To help offset rising college tuition costs, we recently awarded more than $8 million in academic scholarships to help students afford higher education in the 2009-2010 school year. The 2,695 winners of the 2009 Sam Walton Community Scholarship will each receive $3,000 to use toward tuition, fees, books and on-campus room and board in 2009-2010. This year’s scholarship students hail from all 50 U.S. states, Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico. The scholarships are especially important in a year when every dollar counts. According to the National Association of College and University Business Officers, U.S. colleges expect 20 percent more requests for financial aid, while funding for such assistance has fallen due to shrinking endowments and state budget cutbacks. Although the application period for this year's scholarship program has ended, you can learn more about the programs we offer by clicking on the links below. Online applications will be available for the 2010 fall semester beginning November 2, 2009. |
